The Wagga Wagga Base Hospital Redevelopment Project was the single largest state investment in regional hospital upgrades in New South Wales. The redevelopment project is a jointly funded health services infrastructure investment initiative, under the Health & Hospitals Fund Program with the Australian Government contributing $55m and the NSW State providing $215m.
Completed in 2015, phase 2 of the project included a 9m wide Curving Won-Door FireGuard (-/120/-) installed and commissioned in the GF Foyer. The Won-Door deploys under an alarm activation to seal off the intercommunicating staircase from the rapid spread of smoke & fire. During day-to-day business operations this Won-Door sits stored away from view in the storage pocket. Remaining completely hidden from sight and vandalism, resulting in a system that works every time when needed.
Phase 2 consisted of building a new acute hospital, including a new emergency department, imaging and diagnostic services, critical care services, multiple levels of inpatient units and a rooftop helipad.
As is standard on all Won-Door FireGuard doors, the green “push to open” Fire Exit Hardware panels allow egress through the opening and out of the stairwell in the event of a fire. The Won-Door is also wired into the building AC Power supply and has its own 24v back-up batteries in the event of a power failure.
