Recognised as the original face of Australian retail, many developers had tried and failed to restore the famous Model & Moxham’ sister buildings to their former glory but couldn’t make it work financially. In 1995 Walker Corp commenced the refurbishment of Australia’s highest grossing shopping centre by square meters, managing its complex heritage restoration which was completed in 2000.

In 2014, Won-Door Australia was specified by Ignite Architects & Defire to manufacture and install a 10m wide x 3m tall 2-hour rated (-/120/-) accordion fire door to create a fire compartment between the Hoyts cinema and the L2 shopping centre. Stored hidden away in the “open position” concealed from view the Won-Door only deploys under an alarm activation and shuts off the area in seconds. The green “push to open” Fire Exit Hardware panels allow egress through the opening and out of the shopping centre in the event of a fire.

The Won-Door is also wired into the building AC Power supply and has its own 24v back-up batteries in the event of a power failure.
